We offer weekly groups for women in Leeds who have experienced or are currently experiencing domestic violence and abuse. The groups offer a safe space for women to meet others who have been through or are going through similar experiences. Week by week we talk through issues that affect our safety and wellbeing and the safety and wellbeing of those around us. We know that women are the experts in their own situations and that with the right support women themselves will find the best way to move forward.
A rolling programme of structured sessions explores how domestic abuse can impact on women and children as well as building resilience and supporting wellbeing. We offer signposting, advice and referrals for additional support where it is needed. Women build healthy coping strategies, giving them the ability to assess risks, stay safe and make positive choices.
Referrals for these groups are made via Leeds Domestic Violence Service.
The project offers –
A woman-focused, non-judgemental space
A structured rolling programme of sessions
Access to practical advice and support via co-workers from our partner organisation GIPSIL.
What previous group members have said about our DV support groups –
“I’m walking taller today.”
“When I started this group I was on depression medication and I was feeling really down. I didn’t sleep at night, then I started coming to this group and realised there are a lot more people in a similar situation to me and I am not on my own.”
“Before I was burying my head in the ground. I get it now.”
