Women friendly Leeds blog

On Thursday 28th July Women Friendly Leeds members came together to celebrate our wonderful hubs. At Women Friendly Leeds we have a number of different hubs cater to different women’s issues, such as the culturally diverse women’s hub, the ambassadors and the menopause hub. The work these hubs do is vital to the continuation and support of the Women Friendly Leeds movement, as they allow women to connect, take part in consultation with a gendered perspective and explore the changes they want for Leeds.

We gave hubs updates on our recent safety campaigns, including having discussions on how culturally diverse women feel the police can better support their safety. We made more socks as part of our current arts and activism on safety. We had a local Leeds artist Fabienne Clarke perform some songs, including her own music. We made and drank mocktails, and made Women Friendly Badges that women could take home.

Women Friendly Leeds also asked those who attended what they thought were the issues that need to be prioritized by Leeds to make Leeds a Women Friendly City. Some suggestions include more support for BAME in the justice system, men being more engaged in conversations on women’s issues and increasing accessibility for people with disabilities.

The Women Friendly Leeds movement aims to facilitate and encourage these conversations. We love to hear your thoughts and opinions on important changes that needs to be made in Leeds so that we can work together to work towards Leeds being a city that is better for women and better for everyone.

The Hubs Together Even was both a safe space for women to speak on issues they face day to day, and to take some time to get involved in fun crafts and activities. For Women Friendly Leeds to succeed in our aims we want and need the support of women in Leeds who have different perspectives.
Thank you to all the women who came to our event and I hope we will stay in touch for some more upcoming events!

Women Friendly Leeds is a movement that engages with people of all genders. We focus on women’s issues, so if you feel that you are affected by issues that female-presenting people face, Women Friendly Leeds welcomes you warmly.
